Time From JRO to Moshi: 1 hour
Day 1: Cycling from Kilema Gate to Horombo Hut
Start your Kilimanjaro adventure as your guide and mountain support team meets you at the hotel to prepare for the journey. You will then drive to Marangu Gate (1,879 m) in Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania. Upon arrival, check your daypack with drinking water, lunch, and extra clothing, inspect your mountain bike, and obtain your climbing permit. A short drive will take you to Kilema Gate, where your cycling tour to Horombo Hut begins.
The trail passes through lush rainforest, often accompanied by tropical showers, along a 4×4 track. A midway stop allows for a short break before continuing to Horombo Hut. The trail has loose rocks, so it’s important to control your pace and ride safely.
Upon arrival at camp, the mountain support team will handle your essentials and prepare dinner. Nights are spent in designated huts, providing a comfortable alternative for those who prefer not to sleep in tents.
NOTE: Your mountain crew team, including the chef and porters, will depart a day in advance. They need to hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara, and then from Mandara to Horombo. As a result, your duffel bags will also be sent ahead a day early.
Elevation Change: Kilema Gate (1,779 m) to Horombo hut (3,720 m)
Hiking distance: 18 km (11.1 miles)
Hiking duration: 5 to 8 hours
Day 2: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut and Back
After an early breakfast, meet your guide and begin your acclimatization hike into the Alpine desert. The first 3 km of the trail are rocky and eroded, making cycling very challenging. You may need to push or carry your bike along some sections. Once past this initial stretch, the trail improves, allowing you to cycle more comfortably.
The next 6 km towards Kibo Hut is strenuous due to high altitude, low oxygen levels, and cold conditions. You will reach the saddle point for a lunch break. Experienced bikers with good fitness and mountain biking skills may be able to cycle all the way to Kibo Hut, depending on trail conditions, before returning to the saddle for lunch.
After lunch, begin your descent back to Horombo Hut. Remember to pace yourself, stay hydrated, and follow your guide’s instructions to ensure a safe and enjoyable Kilimanjaro cycling adventure.
Acclimatization hike:
Elevation Change: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Target location (4,200 m)

Day 3: Hike from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After an early breakfast, bikers with their guide will set off and begin the journey to Kibo Hut (4,720 m). The first 3 km of the trail are rocky and eroded, making cycling challenging; you may need to push your bike at times.
After the initial 3 km, the trail improves, allowing more comfortable cycling. Due to high altitude, low oxygen, and cold conditions, the ride may still be strenuous. Take breaks as needed to maintain steady breathing and stay hydrated.
Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, lunch will be provided. It is recommended to rest, avoid strenuous activities, and continue to stay well-hydrated to prepare for the next stage of the Kilimanjaro ascent.
Elevation Change: From Horombo Hut (3,720 m) to Kibo Hut (4,720 m)
Hiking distance: 9 km (5.5 miles)
Hiking duration: 4–8 hours
Day 4: Ascend to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut
Departing at night from Kibo Hut (4,720 m), you will begin your trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). A personal porter will accompany you to carry your bike all the way to the top. While the trek is moderate in terms of physical effort, the altitude poses a significant challenge. Throughout the trek, each pair of climbers will have their own guide to monitor their stamina and mental determination. Once you reach Uhuru Peak, you will spend a few minutes there based on the guide's instructions, after which you will return to Kibo Camp. Following a 1.5-hour rest, you will continue your descent to Horombo Hut (3,720 m).
