Tour Description

Day 0: Arrival

Upon arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a representative from Pundamilia Traverse & Escapade will greet you. After a brief introduction, they will transport you to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, you'll have a briefing with the guide, who will ensure you are prepared to start the climb.

Accommodation: Ameg Lodge

Alternative Accommodation: Ardhi Africa or Maridadi Hotel

Time From JRO to Moshi: 1 hour

Day 1: Hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

In the morning, a guide and a mountain support team will meet you at the hotel to get ready for the journey. You will then drive to Kilimanjaro National Park's eastern entrance: Marangu Gate (1,879 m). After swiftly completing the formalities for climbing permits and weighing the porters' luggage, you will start your hike to Mandara Hut (2,720 m). The trekking path goes through the rainforest (where tropical showers are quite likely), so we advise you to bring not only extra clothes but also your raincoats. Upon reaching the camp, our mountain support team will handle the essentials, and prepare dinner.

Along the Marangu route, you will spend your nights in designated huts. These provide an excellent option for those who prefer not to sleep in tents.

Elevation Change: Marangu Gate (1,879 m) to Mandara hut (2,720 m)

Hiking distance: 8 km (4.9 miles)

Hiking duration: 3 to 4 hours

Day 2: Hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After breakfast early in the morning, the group will leave Mandara Hut to embark on a moderate trek to the second high-altitude camp: Horombo Hut (3,720 m). Upon reaching the camp, you will enjoy views of two volcanoes simultaneously: Kibo and Mawenzi.

During your journey, you will pause mid-way for lunch and a brief break before resuming the hike.

Once you arrive at the camp, you can spend the remainder of the day unwinding and resting until dinner is served.

Elevation Change: Mandara Hut (2,720 m) to Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Hiking distance: 11 km (6.8 miles)

Hiking duration: 5–6 hours

Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

After breakfast you will go on an acclimatization hike towards Kibo Hut and back, gaining 200 meters. After lunch you have the opportunity to walk around the surrounding area, take pictures of Mawenzi Volcano or just sleep before the upcoming trekking to Kibo Hut.

Acclimatization hike:

Elevation Change: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) — Target location (3,920 m)

Hiking distance: 2.5 km (1.5 miles)

Hiking duration: 1–2 hours

Day 4: Hike from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today, immediately following breakfast, the group will embark on a trek to the Kibo Hut (4,720 m). The hike itself isn't very challenging, but it's important to maintain a suitable pace to conserve energy for the ascent to Kilimanjaro's summit. Upon arrival at the camp, lunch will be provided, and it's advised to rest as much as possible, refrain from any demanding activities, and stay well-hydrated.

Elevation Change: From Horombo Hut (3,720 m) to Kibo Hut (4,720 m)

Hiking distance: 9 km (5.5 miles)

Hiking duration: 4–8 hours

Day 5: Ascend to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut

Departing at night from Kibo Hut (4,720 m), you will begin your trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). While the trek is moderate in terms of physical effort, the altitude poses a significant challenge. Throughout the trek, each pair of climbers will have their own guide to monitor their stamina and mental determination. Once you reach Uhuru Peak, you will spend a few minutes there based on the guide's instructions, after which you will return to Kibo Camp. Following a 1.5-hour rest, you will continue your descent to Horombo Hut (3,720 m).

Elevation Change: From Kibo Hut (4,720 m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) to Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Hiking distance: 21 km (13 miles)

Hiking duration: 11–14 hours

Day 6: Descent from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

A warm breakfast will be provided in the morning, and then we will proceed to the Marangu Gate (1,879 m), the exit of Kilimanjaro National Park. Once you have descended, the entire crew will come together to congratulate you, and you'll have the opportunity to share your thoughts and expressions of gratitude. Finally, we will present you with commemorative certificates and arrange your transfer back to the hotel.

Elevation Change: From Horombo Hut (3,720 m) to Marangu Gate (1,879 m)
